Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been identified as the national coordinator for SWAYAM Prabha DTH channels 17, 18, 19 and 20, regional director Mr. Shanmugam said on Tuesday.
At present, IGNOU was recording lectures and broadcasting video lectures on its channels according to the schedule prepared by the Center for Online Education (COE), in coordination with the channel coordinators.
SWAYAM Prabha, Mr Shanmugam said, was an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resources Development to provide 34 high-quality education channels via DTH (Direct-to-Home) across the country 24 hours a day via GSAT-15. This was mainly aimed at making quality learning resources accessible to remote areas with poor internet connectivity, he added.
IGNOU launched live conferences in regional languages involving various regional centers on January 6. The IGNOU regional center, Madurai, had been identified as the center for live video conferencing in Tamil.
The first live Tamil video session on the discipline in history was broadcast on January 7, and the second session on Tuesday, Shanmugam said, adding that two or three slots were allocated to broadcast in Tamil each week.
