Robert Porter says we’re not a democracy (“America a Constitutional Republic, Not a Democracy,” February 17). We are a democratically represented republic. His use of the word “overlord” tells us of his contempt for current representatives in Washington.
Winston Churchill said that democracy was the most complicated, impractical and easily corrupted form of government. Except it works better than anything else throughout the history of the world.
Porter’s big lie is that it always ends in dictatorship. This only happens when the will of the people is ignored. Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco and Joseph Stalin were not popularly elected.
Our great experience is only alive as long as we pay attention to it. Our greatest achievement is what we have done with so many different people.
E Pluribus Unum.
