The Memphis Grizzlies continued their torrid streak Thursday night, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-108. It was their 11th consecutive victory. The winning streak now has them 30-14 on the season, and just 3.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns for first place in the Western Conference.

Everyone knows that Ja Morant played at MVP level this season, and Desmond Bane took a huge leap forward this year. But another key reason for the team’s success is the play of Jaren Jackson Jr.

On Thursday, Jackson Jr. posted 20 points, five rebounds and five blocks in the win. With this performance, he joins Anthony Davis in the history books.

Jackson Jr. became the first player since Davis in 2014 to put up three consecutive games with 20+ points and 5+ blocks. He is also the first in Grizzlies franchise history to accomplish this feat.

For the season, “Triple J” is posting more than 16 points, five rebounds and just under two blocks per game. But he has recently taken his game to a new level. His 16.3 points per game are still only fourth-highest on the team. Morant is dropping over 24 per game, Dillon Brooks is over 18 per game and Bane is just under 18.

The Grizzlies flee with the Southwest Division. They are 6.5 games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks, who are 2nd. This team wasn’t supposed to get this good this fast. But the emergence of Ja Morant as one of the league’s elite players propelled them into title contention.
