MAGNOLIA, TX – On Friday July 15, 2022 at approximately 7:00 p.m. Magnolia Police Department officers were dispatched to the Executive Inn & Suites located at 17707 FM1488 in Magnolia in reference to a wellness check. The Montgomery County dispatcher received a call from an unknown male who sounded confused, incoherent and possibly intoxicated. The dispatcher was informed that there was a man on the scene armed with a shotgun. At that time, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, constables from Precinct 3, and soldiers from the Department of Public Safety were also dispatched to assist. Units located the individual, a 23-year-old Hispanic male, and discovered that he was in fact armed with what appeared to be a shotgun. A perimeter was established and nearby roads were closed.
It was determined that the man was known to law enforcement and had a history of mental illness. A mental health assistant from Montgomery County Precinct 1 also responded to the scene to help defuse the situation.
At around 8:15 p.m., as responders attempted to convince the man to surrender peacefully, he walked out of the room with gun drawn, barrel raised toward officers. Fearing for their lives, the police officers discharged their weapons by beating him repeatedly. Once the weapon was secured, officers immediately provided life-saving assistance until EMS personnel could arrive. The man was later transported to Memorial Herman – The Woodlands Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
