Aaron Rodgers is set to start another near-perfect season against NFC North.

Rodgers threw 16 non-interception touchdown passes this season for the Green Bay Packers against their division foes. It comes after Rodgers had 20 touchdown passes and no interceptions against Detroit, Chicago and Minnesota in 2020.

There have only been four seasons since the merger when a quarterback threw at least 15 touchdown passes without an interception. Rodgers has three, having also thrown 18 touchdown passes and no interceptions in the NFC North in 2014.

The only other quarterback to do so was former Rodgers teammate Brett Favre, who had 15 touchdown passes and no interceptions for Minnesota against NFC North in 2009.

Rodgers’ game helped the Packers win at least 13 games for the third time under third-year coach Matt LaFleur.

LaFleur is already tied for the fourth season with 13 wins for a coach in NFL history, behind Bill Belichick (seven), Sean Payton (four) and George Seifert (four).

Mike Tomlin of Pittsburgh set another mark as he is once again assured of not having a losing season. Tomlin has never had a losing season in 15 years with the Steelers, breaking Marty Schottenheimer’s record for the most consecutive years to start a coaching career without scoring a loss.

The Cincinnati Bengals turned from worst to first.

The Bengals won the AFC North for the first time since 2015 a year after finishing last in the division, marking the 17th time in the past 19 seasons that a team has won the division a year after finishing last or at tie for the last.

Dallas also won the division after the playoffs last season, marking the 18th time in the past 19 seasons that at least two teams have won the division a year after missing the playoffs.

Arizona and New England have won the playoffs after missing last season and can join Dallas and Cincinnati as division winners by winning Week 18 and getting some assist. Philadelphia also won the playoffs after missing last season.

This is the 32nd consecutive season that at least four teams have made the playoffs after missing the previous season. San Francisco, Las Vegas and the Los Angeles Chargers can join them with wins this week.

The teams have gone there with 734 fourth downs this season, 76 more than last season’s previous record. Teams converted on 386 of those attempts, breaking the record of 362 set in 2020.

There have already been more than twice as many successful fourth-down tries in the NFL than there were ten years ago, when teams numbered 186 in 2011.

The 52.6% success rate will fall a bit below the previous 30-year high of 55.7% in 2018 and 55% last season. But this is the third time in four seasons that the teams have converted on more than half of the fourth down tries.

The NFC took the lead with the 17th extra game added to the schedule this season, winning 10 of 16 clashes despite coming to AFC stadiums.

The league added the extra game for 2021, matching teams that finished in the same place in their respective divisions.
