Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has backed Eden Hazard to finally show the form that convinced Real Madrid to sign him three years ago.

Hazard became one of the most expensive players in Madrid’s history when they bought him from Chelsea. But frequent injury problems and inconsistent performances have seen him slip down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

He made just seven La Liga starts last season, scoring a goal and getting just one assist. Manager Carlo Ancelotti left him on the bench more and more, also selecting Hazard to start just one Champions League game, the loss to Sheriff in the group stage.

There have been suggestions that Madrid could consider loaning him out this summer, although his astronomical salary means it’s hard to find a suitor. He still has two years left on his contract in the Spanish capital and badly needs to finally show his worth.

Despite his struggles at Madrid, he continued to be selected by Martinez for the Belgium national team. And the Red Devils manager firmly believes that Hazard will be fine next season.

“Eden Hazard is in the best period of his career. I was surprised by the state of mind and physical condition he was in in June. Real Madrid fans are going to see a totally different Hazard,” said said Martinez on the radio show El Larguero.

Hazard has endured a dreadful time at Madrid since joining them from Chelsea

“He is obsessed with success at Real Madrid. He hasn’t thought about changing his goal. He wants to win the World Cup. When you have a player who can make a difference, no matter what, it’s fine to be positive.”

The winger should get a chance to prove himself in the Spanish capital, at least during the pre-season. Ancelotti has made it clear that Hazard will stay at Madrid for the next campaign.

“His plan is quite clear. He stays. He has a lot of motivation because he hasn’t had a good time in recent years and he wants to show all his quality, which for many reasons he hasn’t been able to do. “, Ancelotti said.
